This unique program encourages the participant to explore the boundaries of modern implant dentistry in relation to implant loading protocols, which have changed significantly since the first osseointegrated implant was placed. Treatment planning the anterior single implant to ensure esthetic results requires a thorough study and understanding of the biology and behaviour of the peri-implant tissues. Decreased treatment time, fewer surgical procedures, reduced costs, and patient preference for non-removable restorations are among the benefits of prescribing an Immediate Function protocol. In this course, definitions, treatment time differences and outcomes are clarified for immediate and delayed implant placement following extraction(s), and for the various restoration approaches. The critical success factors for immediate protocol are explored in this program with both lecture and practical exercises to allow for the development of these essential skills. Developing research suggests that there may be significant physiological benefits associated with this procedure that improve patient outcome and experience, and may be regarded as a growing area of today's specialist practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Evolution of the concept – from conventional to immediate implant placement
  • Merits and practical implications of immediate placement with documented success rates and scientific evidence
  • Case selection and treatment planning
  • Atraumatic, minimally invasive extraction techniques and armamentarium
  • Understanding the modified drilling protocol to ensure correct spatial orientation of implant
  • Selecting the right implant – impact of implant macro and micro design
  • Importance of temporary restoration for optimal emergence profile and maintenance of soft and hard tissue health
  • Challenges and management of complications associated with concept
