It is estimated that seven to 15 per cent of patients presenting for cosmetic procedures suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is characterised by obsession with a small or imagined flaw in physical appearance. Given the irreversible nature of most restorative/orthodontic treatment, the biological cost, and the time and financial investment for the patient, it is prudent to identify individuals who may suffer from BDD before they start treatment. Carolina will investigate patients’ cosmetic concerns and expectations, and help identify patients' treatment needs and likelihood of being satisfied with their treatment.

You will learn how to:

• Recognise the motivations that drive patients to seek cosmetic treatment
• Effective communication strategies when presenting treatment plans or discussing patients' concerns
• Identify red flags that will alert us of a potential poor outcome or complaint
• Understand and recognise BDD symptoms.
