One of the most critical components of minimal invasive dentistry is the use of dental materials and composites, and which ones we use can have a vast effect on the outcome.

To date, most clinicians are choosing brands based on results, handling and aesthetics, yet the actual ingredient in the composite is being overlooked. What is it made of? Is it safe? Will it last? What are the long term effects?

In this webinar Dr Maha Doua of Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth (USJ), Lebanon, provides an understanding of composite resin, how they are made, what their ingredients are and their overall impact on clinical and patient outcomes. Shrinkage stress and how to minimise shrinkage will be discussed, as well as the long-term safety of certain chemicals used in composites.

Key Points:
- Composite resins: what are they and what are they made of? - Challenges with composite resin
- Shrinkage and shrinkage stress
- Toxicity of the eluted components
- Long‐term safety of chemical ingredients.
- Evaluation of the risk for the general health
