Dental extractions are not always straightforward and the need for a surgical approach should always be anticipated. This one-day course provides an update for dentists wishing to enhance their skills in dental extractions.

With a combination of lectures, discussion sessions and practical suturing opportunities, this course will enhance your confidence when treatment planning for exodontia.

This course is intended to be interactive and attendees are encouraged to bring cases, instruments and enthusiasm! There will be ample opportunity for informal discussions with presenters. Is there a nightmare case that you need to discuss? Have you had adverse outcomes that might be discussed to help colleagues? Have you ‘inherited’ odd instruments that you don’t know what to do with?

Attendees of this course will have the opportunity to register for Surgical Exodontia Master Classes at CPD. These will present you with the ability to provide direct care to patients requiring surgical exodontia, with the expert support of Oral Surgery and OMFS colleagues.

Topics include

  • Patient assessment, record keeping and informed consent
  • Practical planning tips
  • Instrument options
  • Anaesthesia
  • Modern extraction techniques
  • Socket augmentation
  • Complications
  • Suturing
  • Post-operative care

Learning Objectives

  • On completion of the course, attendees should be able to;
  • Formulate an extraction treatment plan based on a thorough case assessment
  • Communicate with patients and colleagues to obtain informed consent or provide appropriate referral
  • Understand anaesthesic considerations
  • Select instruments and materials for surgical extractions
  • Understand the concepts of atraumatic tooth extraction and apply these to their practice
