This lecture and hands-on program will discuss the transition from the gold standards of autologous bone grafting and connective tissue grafting to new alternative products and less invasive techniques. New strategies and therapeutic options in regenerative therapy will be outlined. Socket walls reduce in three dimensions with the loss of teeth. Resorption leads to aesthetic and functional compromise of future implant sites. Current knowledge suggests augmentation of fresh extraction sites preserves ridge dimensions.
Topics for discussion:
• Atraumatic extraction
• Ridge preservation techniques
• Horizontal and vertical bone augmentation
• Sinus lifting and grafting in combination with simultaneous implant placement
Adequate soft tissue management, including augmentation of soft tissue volume, is a further critical aspect to enhance long term predictability of dental implants. Techniques of soft tissue reconstruction will be discussed, including soft tissue substitutes.
The hands-on component of this course will be practiced on pig jaws. Our aim is for clinicians to strengthen their knowledge of the products available and develop surgical skills with both hard and soft tissue grafting techniques necessary for long term success.
This hands-on course is designed for practitioners with an interest in expanding their treatment options their treatment options for extraction sockets and soft-tissue management.
