Event Details...
Using hands-on, interactive, case-based methods, this workshop will introduce participants to the basics of evidence-based dentistry. To accommodate the varied needs and background, as well as facilitate teaching and learning, we want to take you out of your day-to-day activities change your current clinical perspectives, and give you a fresh look at "evidence".
- Share methods for getting the current best evidence in 5 minutes or less, as this applies to your clinical practice, and your personal and family health care.
- Provide hands on training with laptop computers to find the evidence, and clinical appraisal worksheets to evaluate the evidence.
The five-step method will include:
- Asking an answerable question
- Searching for the current best evidence
- Critically appraising the evidence
- Applying the evidence in practice
- Evaluating the outcome
To facilitate teaching and learning for the most clinicians, the cases will focus on three common areas:
- Consumer products (eg. toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash)
- Preventive agents (eg. fluorides including fluoride varnish and silver fluoride)
- Caries stabilisation (eg. minimal intervention dentistry)
