Event Details...

Using hands-on, interactive, case-based methods, this workshop will introduce participants to the basics of evidence-based dentistry. To accommodate the varied needs and background, as well as facilitate teaching and learning, we want to take you out of your day-to-day activities change your current clinical perspectives, and give you a fresh look at "evidence".

  • Share methods for getting the current best evidence in 5 minutes or less, as this applies to your clinical practice, and your personal and family health care.
  • Provide hands on training with laptop computers to find the evidence, and clinical appraisal worksheets to evaluate the evidence.

The five-step method will include:

  1. Asking an answerable question
  2. Searching for the current best evidence
  3. Critically appraising the evidence
  4. Applying the evidence in practice
  5. Evaluating the outcome

To facilitate teaching and learning for the most clinicians, the cases will focus on three common areas:

  • Consumer products (eg. toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash)
  • Preventive agents (eg. fluorides including fluoride varnish and silver fluoride)
  • Caries stabilisation (eg. minimal intervention dentistry)
