This hands on workshop will equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to comply with current reprocessing of reusable dental device in line with Australian standards, professional guidelines and best practice.

Inadequately reprocessed reusable medical devices pose a high level of risk of infection.  This is a reason much of the standards, AS/NZS 4815 and AS/NZS 4817, revolve around the steps involved in ensuring these are safe for re-use; from cleaning, packaging, sterilisation, storage and monitoring.    The focus of this workshop is to deepen the understanding of instrument reprocessing, so you are better equipped to review your practice’s systems and processes and improve compliance.

TOPICS:

  • What is the level of risk in the dental health setting?
  • What are your regulatory framework compliance obligations?
  • Does your Steri room layout allow a dirty to clean flow of instruments?
  • How to achieve correct manual/mechanical cleaning, packaging, sterilization and storage of reusable dental devices?
  • Performance testing, monitoring, calibration and maintenance of reprocessing equipment requirements (*joint presentation with STS Health)
  • How do you apply contemporary hand hygiene principles? Hand hygiene moments in a dental setting.
  • Discuss the indications for and selection of personal protective equipment (PPE).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Recognise the level of risk infection risk in dental practice
  • Apply contemporary hand hygiene principles to work practice
  • Discuss the indications for and selection of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Identify effective and efficient reprocessing strategies.
