When a traumatic Dental injury occurs there is acute transmission of energy to the teeth and supporting structures. A custom built pressure laminated mouthguard will stay in position at impact and reduce these destructive forces minimising or eliminating injury.

Topics include

  • How Dental injuries occur
  • Community incidence of Dental injuries
  • Pressure laminating machines
  • Modern mouthguard materials and designing mouthguards

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course the participant will understand how correctly made and fitted mouthguards will protect our patients. They will also be able to communicate with their patients on the importance of mouthguard protection in sport.

At the conclusion of this workshop participants will have the knowledge to design and construct their own mouthguards or communicate the appropriate instructions to a commercial dental laboratory.

The workshop will combine lectures, videos and a hands-on workshop where each person will have the opportunity to construct on prepared models a pressure laminated custom built mouthguard.
