For most general practitioners when a patient presents with TMJ pain we automatically prescribe an occlusal splint and hope that it works. However it is important that we carry out a comprehensive history and examination and actually establish a diagnosis.
As undergraduates we learn anatomy and physiology of the masticatory system and then on graduation we seem to forget it all. This course will guide you through an evidence-based treatment approach of your patient with temporomandibular disorders, as a clinician in practice.
Topics to be covered will include:
- Classification of TMDs
- Normal Function of the Masticatory System
- Dysfunction of the Masticatory System – TMJ
- Dysfunction of the Masticatory System - Muscle
- Management Strategies
- Sleep Bruxism
- Botulinum Toxin use for TMDs
- Electronic Instrumentation
- Occlusion and TMDs
- Splint Therapy
- Q & A
