Lecture: New challenges in Periodontal Regeneration: focus on the interproximal attachment and patient aesthetics
Satisfying the aesthetic demands of patients is a major challenge in contemporary periodontology. In addition to eradicating disease and restoring function, it is now also important to achieve aesthetic success.
A thorough understanding of the biological principles and processes occurring during periodontal wound healing will lead to a better appreciation and management of the healing phase of periodontal therapy. The aim of ‘classic’ periodontal reconstructive surgical techniques is to regenerate infrabony defects and/or re-establish root coverage in cases of gingival recessions. The evolution of the regenerative periodontal plastic surgical techniques now makes it possible to simultaneously treat both situations.
With increasing understanding of regenerative biology and advancements in regenerative surgical techniques, together with availability of safe and scientifically-proven biomaterials, it is now possible to satisfy the patient’s demands by regenerating the interdental attachment of compromised teeth with predictable long-term results.
You will learn:
- Classifying interproximal periodontal defects and papillae loss
- Treatment planning of interproximal attachment loss
- Surgical techniques and biological concepts in re-establishing interproximal attachment
- Appropriate biomaterials to use in different clinical
scenarios
Workshop learning outcomes:
- Surgical techniques available for re-establishing papillae and interproximal clinical attachment
- The application of appropriate biomaterials in these clinical situations
- Full surgical protocol on how to treat advanced cases
- Soft tissue management – appropriate surgical flap designs, handling, and suturing techniques
Please feel free to bring your loupes.
