About RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel

The $10.6 million upgrade of the popular RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel is complete, giving visitors to the Tasmanian capital improved facilities and greater choice.

The 14-month project included building a new lounge, renovating the hotel restaurant, adding a gymnasium and creating a hotel entry directly off centrally located Collins Street in the Hobart CBD.

The heritage-listed Cascade House next door was also restored and connected to the 125-room hotel. The sandstone building's interior was remodelled to incorporate an exclusive lounge upstairs and a bar at street level. The upgrade followed a $1.3 million refurbishment of bathrooms in 2014.

RACT Group CEO Harvey Lennon said nearly $13 million had been spent on the hotel since it had been acquired by the RACV/RACT.

"The centrally located hotel was already very popular with RACT and RACV members and members of other auto clubs, and we anticipate that the improved facilities will take the hotel to a new level of popularity," Mr Lennon said.

Hotel Manager Shelley Richards said the RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel had been in demand by both business and leisure travellers since the two motoring organisations acquired the property in 2013.

"The RACV/RACT partnership has introduced Hobart to thousands of auto club members across Australia. An increasing number of members from all states, particularly Victoria, are taking advantage of the significant discounts offered and are bringing new tourism business to Tasmania," Ms Richards said.

"Conferences also are a major part of the hotel and accordingly, event facilities were upgraded. As well as improving existing areas, a new Board Room for up to 16 people was created. The Collins Room accommodates 200 people seated theatre style, while The Stables seats up to 100.

"Both convention and holiday travel are growing in Tasmania. In the year to September 2016, interstate conference visitors increased 47 per cent, while interstate holidaymakers rose eight per cent. The upgraded Apartment Hotel will enhance Hobart's attraction as a holiday and convention destination."
