Following extraction, the tooth socket undergoes a series of healing process and changes, which include remodeling of the bone and alteration of the alveolar ridge dimensions.
Management of the extraction socket can be challenging, especially in the esthetic zone. Proper diagnosis and treatment planning is necessary to ensure that the final restorative outcome, such as fixed partial denture or implant supported crown, is stable and predictable. It has been reported that within 12 months following tooth extraction, an average of 50% of resorption of the alveolar ridge can be expected to occur. The following course will discuss current knowledge and techniques available to minimize soft and hard tissue shrinkage in order to attain an ideal esthetic outcome.
The scope of this unique hands-on workshop has a focus on the following key areas:
- Indications for use of biomaterials will be discussed
- Practical concepts for site development of extraction sockets and contour augmentation of peri-implant defects will be demonstrated
- Soft and hard tissue procedures will be trained on pig-jaws
- Participants will learn advantages and disadvantages for immediate, early and delayed implant placement protocols
This course is designed for anyone interested in expanding their treatment options for extraction sockets.
