Dr Greg Mahoney graduated from the University of Queensland in 1978 and after 2 years working in Mt Isa in private practice moved to Manly in Queensland into his own practice. He completed his Grad Dip Clin Dent in 1997 with the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology Prize and this was followed by a MSc (Dent) in 2001.Greg is a conjoint senior lecturer at the Centre of Military and Veterans Health at the University of Queensland, where he is undertook his PhD in dental risk in the military environment. Greg has a number of published papers on dental casualty rates in the military, dental anaesthesiology, dental risk management, oral health quality of life, dental caries and lifetime fluoridation exposure. As a member of the Air Force Specialist Reserve, Greg provides specialist support to the ADF in the areas of dental epidemiology and dental sedation. In 2008, he was promoted to Group Captain and is currently the Clinical Director of Specialist Health Services.
Greg is the President of the Australian Society for Dental Anaesthesiology; President of the Australasian Military Medicine Association; the Asian Pacific Representative of the International Federation of Dental Anaesthesiology Societies; Secretary of the Section Defence Force Dental Services of the FDI; Member of the Dental Board of Australia’s Conscious Sedation Working Group, and a panel member of both the Dental Board of Australia and the Qld Health Ombudsman. But most importantly, uses nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation sedation on a regular basis.
