Kelly completed her undergraduate dental training at Griffith University in 2009 on a Queensland Health Rural Scholarship. Since graduation, she has worked in both public and private practice in various rural and remote areas of Australia before relocating back to South East Queensland for further study. She is currently completing a PhD project investigating risk factors and preventative strategies for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ), and a Master of Public Health majoring in Indigenous Health. She has published articles on periodontal prognosis, adjunctive antibiotic use in the treatment of periodontitis, MRONJ, and osteoradionecrosis since starting her PhD. She has a special interest in rural and remote oral health, as well as the systemic interactions between general and oral health.
