A/Professor Robert Delcanho’s practice is restricted exclusively to treating people with Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular problems and the dental management of Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.

A/Prof Delcanho originally trained as a dentist at the University of Western Australia, graduating in 1978. He developed a strong interest in Temporomandibular Disorders /Orofacial Pain and in 1993 completed a 2 year Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction Post Doctoral Program at the UCLA Pain Management Centre in Los Angeles, California. Under the supervision of Professor Glenn Clark, he simultaneously completed a Master of Science in Oral Biology, studying haemodynamics in chronically painful jaw muscles.

A/Prof Delcanho returned to Australia in 1993 and began the first private practice in Australia restricted to Orofacial Pain, Temporomandibular Disorders and Dental Sleep Medicine.  He has been elected a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists -only four dentally qualified Fellows have been admitted to the Faculty.

A/Prof Delcanho has had a special interest in Dental Sleep Medicine since 1991 successfully treating many patients suffering snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea related problems.  He has also lectured locally, nationally and internationally on this subject. He is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and is a founding member of Australian Sleep Association - Orofacial Special Interest Group.

A/Prof Delcanho has published scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, written chapters for textbooks, and acted as reviewer for papers submitted to a number of scientific journals. He has been appointed Clinical Associate Professor at the Dental School, University of Western Australia, teaching at both undergraduate and postdoctoral levels.
