Dr Uphar Chamoli

Uphar is a Senior Engineering Assessor in the Devices Specialist Evaluation Section at the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and specialises in engineering design assessment of high-risk medical devices. He also represents the TGA in the Personalised Medical Devices (PMD) working group at the International Medical Devices Regulators Forum (IMDRF), where he is actively involved in developing technical documents for design verification and validation of PMDs. Prior to joining the TGA, Uphar worked for over a decade in academic research focusing on musculoskeletal biomechanics. He currently holds honorary appointments with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Technology Sydney.
Uphar holds a PhD in spinal biomechanics from UNSW Sydney, MPhil in computational biomechanics from UNSW Sydney and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology.
