Prof. Lars Sennerby graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Gothenburg, Sweden in 1986. He joined the research group led by Prof. P-I Branemark in 1982 and participated in studies on osseointegrated dental implants. In 1991 he was awarded a PhD-degree on a thesis entitled "On the bone tissue response to titanium implants". He was trained in oral surgery at the Branemark Clinic, Public Health Service and Faculty of Dentistry in Gothenburg and worked there part-time from 1989 to 2001. The Branemark Clinic served as an international centre for clinical work, research and education regarding treatment of edentulous patients with dental implants. In 1993 he was appointed Associate Professor and in 2000 Professor in Clinical and Experimental Oral Implantology at the Department of Handicap Research/Biomaterials at the University of Gothenburg. He held a part-time position as professor at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Umea University, Sweden from 2003 to 2004. From 2011, he is part-time Professor at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University, Sweden and works today with implant surgery in private practice in Sweden, Italy and Scotland. Although not as registered Specialist, he is one of a handful of Clinicians in the world who has the title "Professor in Implantology".

Dr Sennerby has published some 300 papers, reviews and book chapters on bone biology and dental implants and is a frequently invited lecturer on international meetings and conferences. He has been the supervisor of 18 Ph.D. theses, mainly on clinical and experimental aspects of dental implants. He is co-founder and co-Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research.
